Epic Games is very excited about the new opportunities for Unreal Engine 3 licensees and developers. Below are highlights on the latest technology developments.

On October 4, Epic’s founder and technical director, Tim Sweeney, revealed Unreal Engine 3 running in Flash onstage at Adobe MAX 2011.

Epic’s new Unreal Insider blog details how the studio updated “Unreal Tournament 3” with global illumination, god rays and improved shadowing to bring world-class 3D gaming to the Web.

Like Unreal Engine 3’s recently announced Mac support, Flash support continues the push to bring Unreal everywhere, increasing the audience and revenue potential for developers using Epic’s game engine technology.

Also on October 4 at the Apple Special Event keynote, Epic announced Infinity Blade 2, the sequel to the 2010 iOS game of the year.

The Unreal Insider blog describes how the Unreal Engine is pushing the envelope with new cutting-edge mobile features on the latest A5-equipped iOS devices, including iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.

In addition, new iCloud service support and Facebook integration make the iOS gameplay experience even more compelling for players and more lucrative for developers.

Want to be a part of the UE3 community? Start by ‘Liking’ the Unreal Engine Facebook to keep up with news and to be eligible for giveaways. You can also follow @UnrealEngine on Twitter and join the discussion on the UDK forums.

Finally, Epic would like to applaud Unreal Development Kit users for tipping UDK over the 1 million unique users mark. To date, there are more than 1 million different computers onto which UDK has been installed.

Epic also recently confirmed that the Gears of War series is now a billion-dollar franchise. While those three games alone may already eclipse the combined economic impact of every other game engine that can be licensed today, if you were to also take into account the economic impact of the many games created by our licensees, the numbers would be astronomical.

Epic commends Unreal Engine developers for continually amazing us with their accomplishments.

MELBOURNE – 19 July 2011 – The Game Developers’ Association of Australia today announced that the industry conference Game Connect Asia Pacific (GCAP) is returning to Melbourne in November 2011.

With it’s theme of ‘The Journey’, GCAP 2011 will deliver a series of lectures, master classes and discussions, designed to identify the processes, resources and opportunities that will grow the Australian industry over the next few years.

“’The Journey’ is a liberating theme for the conference as it not only allows us to look forward and plot the path of the Australian game development industry over the next few years, but also lets us look back at our evolution, dissecting what has been learned over 31 years of creating games in Australia,” said Antony Reed, CEO of the Game Developers’ Association of Australia.

“GCAP 2010 was a community driven event and in many ways defined the capabilities of the Australian industry. For 2011, participation from every discipline in the game making process ensures we establish the right foundations for the industry’s future growth.”

GCAP 2011 ‘The Journey’ will consist of a number of tracks – programming, art, design, audio, business development and marketing – addressing the needs of the whole industry. The conference will also include multiple presentation formats, including panels, round table discussions, lectures and master classes.
